One Coat Long Lasting

Coverage approx
6 - 10 sqm per litre

Touch dry: 24 hours
Fully cured: 48 hours

Water and soap
clean up

ULTRAMAX is applied like a water-based product — but once the water evaporates, the modified linseed oil penetrates into the timber, enriching the grain and locking in colour. The finish is low sheen, water-repellent, and resists tracking or marking once cured. Designed for one-coat use on most timbers.

How to Apply ULTRAMAX One Coat Deck & Furniture Oil Stain

Surface Preparation

Good surface preparation is critical to the performance and longevity of ULTRAMAX. All timber surfaces must be sound, clean, dry and free from dirt, oil, grease, mould, moss, soot, lichen, salt, bird droppings and other
contaminants.

Preparation is the key to the performance of ULTRAMAX One Coat Deck & Furniture Oil Stain. We recommend the use of  MASTERMAX PREPMAX Timber Clean & Prep either for timber deck preparation or when a more aggressive preparation is required and MASTERMAX GET-GONE fungicidal treatment & cleaner for outdoor furniture and other timber substrates preparation.

We recommend the following preparation methods:

For Decks and Heavily Contaminated Timber:

Use MASTERMAX PREPMAX Timber Clean & Prep
– a powerful cleaning and prepping solution designed to remove embedded dirt and prepare timber for optimal stain absorption.

For Outdoor Furniture or General Mould Removal:

Use MASTERMAX GET-GONE Fungicidal Treatment & Cleaner (on furniture)
– a specialist cleaner that kills mould, moss, and lichen prior to staining.

Important: If treating for moss, mould, or lichen, apply your chosen cleaner and leave for at least 2 weeks to allow the growth to die. Then scrub, scrape, or lightly water blast to remove dead material. This step is essential to ensuring long-term stain performance.

New Timber

  • Pine: Must be weathered outdoors for at least 8 weeks before application. Then clean thoroughly with PREPMAX or GET-GONE (on furniture).

  • Hardwood: Weather for a minimum of 12 weeks to allow tannins to leach out. Rinse several times during this period. Clean before staining.

Previously Stained or Weathered Timber

  • Can be stained if previously treated with oil-based stain and the surface is still absorbent.

  • Scrub or brush to remove loose fibres.

  • Clean with PREPMAX or GET-GONE to remove dirt, fungal growth, and contaminants.

  • Avoid using steel wool or wire brushes, which may cause iron stains on timber.

  • Water blasting may be used on low–medium pressure to assist with cleaning — avoid excessive pressure which can damage timber fibres.

Application Instructions

  • Apply on a fine day with temperatures between 5°C and 30°C.

  • Avoid rain for at least 24 hours after application.

  • Stir ULTRAMAX thoroughly with a wide, flat stirrer before and during use.

  • Apply evenly along full board lengths using a brush or applicator pad to avoid lap marks.

  • Only apply as much stain as the timber can absorb — do not over-apply.

  • Coat end grains and edges where possible for full protection.

Drying & Curing Times

  • Touch Dry: 24 hours

  • Fully Cured: Up to 48 hours (longer in cool or humid conditions)

ULTRAMAX is designed to be effective in just one coat on most surfaces. If a second coat is desired, ensure the first coat is fully dry and tack-free before reapplying.

Maintenance & Reapplication

  • Clean annually using MASTERMAX GET-GONE to remove grime, moss, or contaminants.

  • Reapply every 2–5 summers, or when timber starts to show signs of wear or fading.

  • Dressed timbers may require more frequent re-application due to limited initial absorption.
