If you’ve ever stained a deck, you know it can be a bit of a tediously long job - sanding, cleaning, two coats, waiting for dry weather… and hoping it all goes to plan. How The One-Coat System Works

ULTRAMAX isn’t an ordinary stain. It’s a New Zealand-made, water-based oil stain that’s been specially developed for our tough and changeable climate. The secret is its modified linseed oil formula, which soaks deep into the timber to protect and enrich it, while still allowing the natural grain to show through.

How it works is once the water component of the stain evaporates, the oil locks in, forming a durable, weather-resistant, low-sheen finish that resists tracking and marking. The end result is a rich colour and lasting protection - all in one easy coat!

Where To Use ULTRAMAX

ULTRAMAX is perfect for use on:

  • Timber decks

  • Outdoor furniture

  • Timber weatherboards

It works on both pine and hardwoods, whether the timber is new, weathered, or previously oil-stained.

Preparing Your Timber

Good preparation is key to getting the best from ULTRAMAX. Before staining, make sure your timber is clean, dry, and free of mould or grime.

For best results, use:

  • MASTERMAX PREPMAX Timber Clean & Prep – for decks and heavily weathered timber.

  • MASTERMAX GET-GONE Fungicidal Treatment & Cleaner – for outdoor furniture or light mould removal.

If treating moss or lichen, let it die off for at least two weeks before scrubbing or rinsing away.

How To Apply ULTRAMAX

  • Stir ULTRAMAX well before and during use.

  • Apply on a fine day between 5°C and 30°C, avoiding rain for 24 hours after.

  • Use a brush or applicator pad, working along the full board lengths to avoid lap marks.

  • Apply only as much as the timber can absorb - no need to overdo it.

That’s it - one coat, and you’re done.

Drying And Maintenance

ULTRAMAX dries in around 24 hours, and cures fully within 48 hours. Once cured, it won’t mark clothing or track underfoot.
