Environmentally friendly and safe
Mastermax Prep Etch
  • Concrete etch

  • Environmentally friendly and safe

  • Use to roughen a surface prior to coating

  • For use on concrete floors, driveways, garage floors, steps, paths and all concrete drive-on and walk-on surfaces

  • Safe near plants and grass

  • Concentrate powder

MASTERMAX PREP ETCH is a low odour, environmentally friendly safe etch for use on concrete surfaces to obtain a surface profile for optimum adhesion. This is done by chemically reacting with surface laitance to give a slightly etched finish to the surface. A safer alternative to hydrochloric acid etches. Safe near plants and grass. Dissolve in water.

MASTERMAX PREP ETCH is used on concrete floors, driveways, garage floors, steps and all concrete drive-on and walk-on surfaces to ensure a surface profile that provides maximum adhesion of appropriate finishing systems. Can also be used to reduce the effects of efflorescence salts. There is no benefit for use on previously coated floors.

Concrete Etch

PRODUCT INFORMATION

DESCRIPTION:

PREP ETCH is a low odour, environmentally friendly safe etch for use on concrete surfaces to obtain a surface profile for optimum adhesion. This is done by chemically reacting with surface laitance to give a slightly etched finish to the surface. A safer alternative to hydrochloric acid etches. Safe near plants and grass.

PROPERTIES:

PREP ETCH is supplied as a concentrated powder which is dissolved in water to provide a solution that roughens concrete.

PRINCIPAL USES:

PREP ETCH is used on concrete floors, driveways, garage floors, steps and all concrete drive-on and walk-on surfaces to ensure a surface profile that provides maximum adhesion of appropriate finishing systems. Can also be used to reduce the effects of efflorescence salts. There is no benefit for use on previously coated floors.

APPLICATION DATA:
Surface Preparation:

Allow 28 days for freshly laid concrete to cure prior to the application of PREP ETCH. Before applying PREP ETCH, sweep the concrete surface to remove any loose or powdery material. Any oil contamination on unpainted concrete floors should be removed with a proprietary degreaser or oil remover before using PREP ETCH.

Application:

Add 1 kg of PREP ETCH to 5 litres of water and mix thoroughly until the MASTERMAX PREP ETCH is dissolved.

5 litres is sufficient to treat approximately 20 m2 of bare concrete.

Apply PREP ETCH solution to the concrete using a plastic watering can at a rate of 4 m2/litre. Bubbling should be evident over the entire surface. If there is no bubbling evident, clean the surface with a suitable detergent and repeat the application of PREP ETCH solution. Ensure the surface is “kept wet” during the etching process by sprinkling water to any areas that start to dry. A damp floor acts as a buffer to assist with preventing an uneven etch.

Once bubbling has begun to subside (5-15 min), scrub the surface with a stiff nylon broom then rinse off with copious amounts of clean water whilst at the same time scrubbing with a stiff broom to remove the loose concrete salts and most importantly neutralise the acid. Use of a mild alkaline detergent to clean the surface once bubbling has subsided is also suggested to assist with neutralising of the acid.

It is important to ensure no residual acid remains on the concrete surface. If this is not done correctly paint adhesion failure may occur.

Touch Dry

Not Applicable.

Recoat:

Maybe required to be repeated if desired etch profile of a medium grit sandpaper has not been achieved.

Clean-up:
Clean and wash up with water. Protect Our Environment – MASTERMAX PREP ETCH is a natural product that presents no significant hazard to the environment. Any unwanted solution can be flushed away with running water.

Avoid discharge into stormwater drains, sewers and waterways. Dispose of the empty containers according to your local council regulations.
