PRODUCT INFORMATION

DESCRIPTION:

A tough, water based, 100% acrylic low sheen finish for exterior timber, concrete and fibre cement surfaces.

PROPERTIES:

TIMBERMAX’s 100% acrylic polymer provides exceptional protection from the sun and weather without the need for a primer or undercoat.
TIMBERMAX is a fast-drying paint that can be applied on substrates at temperatures as low as 5°C.
TIMBERMAX provides outstanding weather protection drying to a low sheen finish with high opacity, excellent UV resistance and weatherability.

PRINCIPAL USES:

TIMBERMAX can be used as a finish coat, undercoat and primer on most exterior surfaces. Typical areas of use are Timber Decks, Weatherboards, Fences, Trelliswork, Fibre-Cement surfaces, Concrete Blocks and Unglazed Bricks.

LIMITATIONS:

Please refer to “Preparation” before use.  On unusual or nonstandard surfaces, you should test this product to determine if it is suitable for your particular use.

Some precoated or pre-primed substrates may require re-priming prior to application of TIMBERMAX. Please refer to the manufacturer of the substrate for their recommendations.

Do not apply when temperature is below 5°C, the humidity is greater than 85% or if dew or rainfall is likely within 4 hours of application.

COLOURS:

Black Crow, Brown Owl, Grey Finch, Grey Quail, Kingfisher Green, Red Kaka, Rustic Weka, White Dove  Note:  Always colour test first to check your choice of TIMBERMAX colour gives the result you want on the surface you are painting.

APPLICATION DATA & Surface Preparation:
All surfaces:
Remove any old flaking paint by scraping or water blasting. Ensure the surface is sound, clean and free of mould and moss, dirt, oil, grease, bird droppings or other contaminants. Treat mould and moss with a proprietary fungicidal product such as PREPMAX Timber Clean & Prep, then remove dead material and dirt with a low-medium pressure wash down and/or scrubbing. Leave to dry.

Previously Painted Surfaces: Remove any flaking paint using a scraper, wire brush and/or sand as necessary. Fill nail holes, dents, cracks with appropriate filler or sealant. Ensure surface is clean. Thoroughly sand glossy surfaces with 200 grit sandpaper prior to painting. When painting over an unknown coating or when changing products, apply to a small area to check compatibility.

Timber Surfaces:  If timber surfaces have been water blasted, please check to ensure excessive loose wood fibres are not present (as high pressure washing often leaves a ‘fluffy’ surface on timber). If excessive loose fibres are present or you have a weathered, absorbent timber surface, we recommend applying an initial primer coat of TIMBERMAX thinned 10% with water.

Note:  Heavy water blasting is not recommended on timber surfaces as it can “fluff” the timber surface, use a low-medium pressure wash down and/or scrubbing. Removal of any moss, mould & lichen is critical to achieving a successful long-term decorative paint system and to achieve this you need to treat, leave until it has died then remove.

Concrete Surfaces:

Ensure any fresh concrete is allowed to cure at least 28 days prior to painting. Smooth bare concrete or if the surface is steel trowelled or any laitance is present the concrete will need to be etched with Prep Etch Concrete Etch prior to painting. The Acid etched needs to produce a roughen the surface (as rough as 100 grit sandpaper).

If the surface does not have an appearance like 100 grit sandpaper, a second application may be required in certain areas. Allow 3-4 days to dry thoroughly before painting. The floor may be professionally ground if acid etching is not possible. If the surface is porous or has been ground, a 10% thinned coat of TIMBERMAX as a primer is required, followed by two full finish coats.

Unsound Concrete, Clay & Terracotta Tiles & Unglazed Brick:

Old or weathered tiles and brick may have an unsound surface. Check the unglazed tiles or bricks after cleaning and preparation with adhesive tape. If significant grit is removed from their surface with the adhesive tape, a coat of NOVEX EASY SEAL CONCRETE SEALER Clear must be applied prior to application of TIMBERMAX. Using TIMBERMAX on glazed Masonry or Terracotta tile and brick surfaces is not recommended.

Application:
Apply on a fine day. Avoid application if humidity is greater than 85%, dew or rainfall is likely within 4 hours, or the temperature is below 5°C.

Stir well before use, with a wide flat stirrer in a circulating “bottom to top” motion.  Apply with a good quality brush, roller or airless spray.

Two full finish coats are recommended to give greater durability and protection to the surface.

To aid adhesion and to seal new, porous, weathered surfaces, a 10% water thinned coat of TIMBERMAX as a primer is required followed by two full finish coats.

Note:  If the project requires more than one pail of product (especially different batches) it is good practice to add some of the new pail to the last of the old pail during application to ensure colour uniformity.

Drying Time & Recoat:

As a guide, TIMBERMAX will be touch dry in approximately 30 minutes and can be recoated after 2 hours. Leave to dry overnight before walking on the finished surface.   Note:  Drying and curing times will vary depending on temperature and humidity conditions at time of application.

Clean-up:
Wash equipment with cold water.   Protect our Environment – When disposing of leftover liquid, keep out of stormwater drains and waterways. Take to a local hazardous waste disposal station. Dry all empty containers in a wellventilated area. Dispose of the empty containers according to your local council regulations.
