How to Prep Your Surface
A perfect paving paint job starts with good prep. Follow these simple steps to ensure your paint sticks well and lasts longer.
1. Clean the Surface
First, remove dirt, dust, and debris. Use a broom, leaf blower, or pressure washer for a thorough clean. If there are oil stains, scrub them with a degreaser.
2. Repair Cracks and Holes
Fill any cracks or holes with a concrete patching compound. Let it dry completely before moving to the next step.
3. Etch New Concrete with MASTERMAX PREP ETCH
If you're painting fresh concrete, it needs to be etched to help the paint adhere. Use MASTERMAX PREP ETCH, an environmentally friendly, low-odour concrete etch that safely prepares your surface.
How to Use MASTERMAX PREP ETCH:
Mix: Add 1 kg of PREP ETCH to 5 litres of water and stir until dissolved.
Apply: Use a plastic watering can to apply the solution to the concrete at 4 m² per litre. You should see bubbling – this means it's working!
Keep Wet: Keep the surface wet during the etching process by sprinkling water as needed.
Scrub and Rinse: Once bubbling subsides (5-15 minutes), scrub the surface with a stiff nylon broom. Rinse thoroughly with clean water, scrubbing as you rinse to remove loose salts.
Neutralise: Use a mild alkaline detergent after rinsing to neutralise any leftover acid.
MASTERMAX PREP ETCH is safe near plants and grass and is a safer alternative to harsh acid etches.
4. Let it Dry
Make sure the surface is completely dry before applying paint. Moisture can prevent the paint from sticking properly.
